Photography Student From Foothill College Gets the Lead

It was such a thrill to see artwork from emerging Bay Area college/university artists and learn how they related their works to Warhol Live @ the De Young. We received an overwhelming number of thought-provoking submissions for De Young's College Night exhibit Warhol Now and Then. Students from San Francisco State, The Art Institute, SF City College and all the way down to San Jose State (just to name a few) submitted wonderful works which made for changeling jury process.

Here is a message from College Night Curator, Robert Melton with more details:

After carefully reviewing all the submissions, Susan Hillyard's submission, Warhol at the Fillmore best captured the essence and the spirit of this year, spring 2009 College Night program. Her piece presents both a traditional and contemporary approach to Warhol’s art and artistic practices charged with a great depth on insight and ingenuity.

A big applause to Susan for a job well executed.

As College Night Curator, I would like to personally thank all of you who submitted artworks for the lead image for Warhol Now and Then. Although we have selected our lead image, our job is far from done. Please keep in mind that works that were not accepted for the lead image will certainly be considered for Warhol Now and Then general submission deadline slated for March 13th. With that said, the submissions I’ve seen thus far are strong contenders for the May 8th College Night show.

The power of art - making a difference in the world.

I eagerly look forward to seeing and meeting you all on May 8th.

Robert Melton

nexus ArtReach Presents to SFSU's Exhibition Design Class

Tomorrow Robert and I will present on the planning process for College Night @ the de Young to San Francisco State University's Exhibition Design class . I am very excited to return back to SF State, the school I graduated from 3 1/2 years ago and talk to the students on the various elements involved in planning a one night only art event. The presentation will include lessons learned from the past two years - 5 shows and cover topics on student/faculty outreach, creating time-lines, advertising to logistics. I am looking forward to this great opportunity to speak with the future curators and exhibition designers.
